This video shot in 1951 shows the late and great Sir Harold Ridley implanting a perspex lens into the eye of a patient with a mature cataract. Although this was considered to be reckless at the time, it paved the way for development of modern cataract surgery

    surgeons in the future will look back on our work and wonder about the present too.
