2010 ASCB Press Book - Hill, video 1 of 3
Video microscopy of trypanosomes. Parasites at the perimeter of a large colony (left) migrate out and back from the colony. These are termed "scouts" and when scouts identify external parasites (small group of parasites at right), they return to the large colony and direct coordinate movement of cells in the colony outward to recruit the external parasites into the colony. (From Oberholzer, Lopez et al. 2010 PLoS Pathogens 6(1): e1000739)
