This song ended up on a James Gang album, though this version is by Tommy Bolin's earlier band Energy. The most unusual thing about this version is the vocal by Tommy. Other versions may have a stronger vocal, by other singers. Here Tommy was likely singing it as a demo for the singer to learn the tune. Though it's not very prominent in the mix it's interesting to hear Tommy sing this great song, and the guitar solo is another great example of Bolin cutting loose. As usual Tommy's bandmates Bobby Berge on drums, Stanley Sheldon on bass, and Tommy Stephenson on keyboards provide world class accompaniment .

  • can this version be found anywhere?

  • @ez1dog2 Yes, it's available on itunes and yahoomusic and probably other sites of that nature. It's from a CD released by TB Archives called Tommy Bolin & Energy Live which might turn up on eBay or Amazon if you look around. Highly recommended and some of Tommy's wildest guitar playing.

  • Not to be a party pooper...........BUT there is a great bunch of other players here you people know????? Bobby Berge, Stanley Sheldon..........and I didn't do to shabby either.......It was a BAND!!!!!!!!!!! Tommy was the leader...........but WE all contributed.............;-)))))))) Who do you think composed the opening to this song? It's keyboards is it not?

    Sincerely,

    T. Stephenson

  • Tommy is Criminally Underrated as singer and as producer...yes, just not as guitar player...what he did on 'teaser' album as producer is fantastic....and his voice was so warm, cool and extremely loveble...

  • I love this version of the song.

  • I thought it had vocals on this track wtf man? it is insturmental

  • Comparing Blackmore to Bolin is like comparing Hendrix to Clapton. All have their own styles and versitile interests. Maybe the thing I can say about Bolin (and it's only an opinion) is that he had no commitment to any style of music. He had played with numerous musicians (and he was only 25 when he died), and perhaps he needed to be secure he could concentrate on one style/band. Not sure when his drug use started, they're making a movie about those Deep Purple years, maybe that'll explain a lot

  • I wish everyone knew Tommy. Damn sad deal, but if you can pal around musically with Jeff Beck, you've accomplished something. Really wish they would have had time to start a band.

  • @IansWatch That's the direction i think Tommy would have went kinda like Santana/Jeff Beck, like on" Stratus".

  • you should have heard him with Moxy, which was by accident!
