  • hey, i wonder what kind of cement do you mix for the mortar, i mean what ratio between sand and cement do you use? for i intedend to mold some bigger slopper holds.

  • I used an industrial grout, but I'm sure that brick mortar would work fine.

  • Thank you for your video. Does it have to be foundry sand, or are other sands suitable?

  • Other damp sands can be used, but the addition of the bentonite clay makes it hold together and compress nicely.

  • where can i buy foundry sand?

  • you could ask a foundry to sell you a pail full, or check the yellow pages. I get mine from a company called OCL in surrey, bc Canada. They may have other locations. I mix about 8% bentonite clay powder with the fine silica sand.

  • im 17 and in the process of building a 25 foot wall in my garage, i blew through my budget and cant afford new holds. Ive never built my own holds so im curious, what sand do i use maybe you would be able to give me a little direction on how to start my email is madsen.josh@comcast.net please dont spam me

  • I started making holds today myself, using polyester resin mixed with playsand and acrylic paint. This looks far cheaper, and about as easy (and less smelly). Have you had any hold crack on you when bolting to the wall, or really hauling on them?

  • are the holds very durable? Do they crumble or crack at all? what kind of weight will the holds hold?

    thanx

  • awesome video man thanx i'll give it a go

  • Excellent video! Think will have an art project to do with my climbing addicted child. Thanks for share.
