At 15:23 Elizabeth Fire Dispatch transmitted to 340 E. Grand St. for a reported structure fire. Numerous responding units notified dispatch of a heavy smoke condition in the area. DC Peterson struck a 2nd alarm upon recept of the report from the 1st due engine and a 3rd Alarm shortly after his arrival. Fire orginated on the B-Bravo side of a two and a half story wood frame multi-family dwelling and quickly extended to all floors as well as to the B-Bravo exposure, which had fire throughout as well. Numerous handlines were stretched to extinquish fire in both dwellings.

  • as a 12 year volunteer dont complain and just do you job who cares what other departments do. just do what your deparment is told to do.

  • Exactly, get the facts straight.. Elizabeth is NJ's 4th largest city with a population of 120,568. Borders Newark, Irvington, and Linden...all city PAID departments. Elizabeth operates 7 engines 4 trucks and mulitple special units and is most certainly a PAID dept. and a good one at that.

  • firefighters vol or paid do the same job some just get paid thats the way it is and paid department have a different way about doing things on a fire scence but when the times comes they do the same type of work and i know some vol departments have helped out paid departments take chester vol fire company they have gone to bound brook with there water tanker when they have had water main breaks i too am i vol firefighter and proud to be one of the millions in the usa

    That use to be my home for long time.. It was nice but One day I got home from work and everything was gone.. Well Not My stuff cause I was living in the first floor but the other ppl couldnt get nothing... Ohh I miss That House!!
