A Komboloi has its roots in Greece, thought to be an evolution of prayer beads used by monks. Today the komboloi has very little to no religious connection. A komboloi consists of a string of beads used to keep your hand occuppied for stress relief or just for flipping around for fun. It is a very soothing thing to feel the beads and listen to the soft clacking as you twirl, spin or flip the komboloi. Originally, komboloi were made from rare amber beads. You can still find komboloi made from amber, but at a very high cost.

At first it was only the men who used a komboloi, but today many more women are discovering the enjoyment of moving a komboloi through their fingers. You can do a simple search on the Internet to learn ways to manipulate the string of beads. A short time of practice will have you working the beads through your fingers like a pro.
