First sucessful test drive of my 3.4L DOHC powered 1987 Fiero GT. The previous couple of attempts were foiled by a dead TPS sensor, and an incorrect coolant temperature sensor along with a broken radiator that I didn't catch.

Motor is a fully rebuilt 1991 3.4L DOHC from a vin X Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme/Lumina Z34/Monte Carlo Z34. .030" bore, full balance, blueprint, 5 angle valve job, 96-97 domed pistons, ARP rod and flywheel bolts. SPEC stage 2 kevlar clutch, stock 282 Getrag 5 speed transmission.

  • If you've still got this car, you should try 6/6 timing instead of the 13 degree exhaust retard. It's much better.

  • Itr's actually timed straight up right now. I may try that when I service the timing belt and idlers next for shits and giggles.

  • can i just get a 3.4L and swap everything from my 2.8 to the 3.4L no problem?? like motor mounts intake front motor pulleys...? will it bolt up to my auto tranny?? wich fly wheel i use??

  • With a 3.4 OHV from the 93-95 Camaro or Firebird, you can do exactly that. It's just a bigger 2.8, even has all the bolt holes and stuff, except for the starter is on the wrong side - you need to drill the holes in the right place.

This is the LQ1 3.4 DOHC though - nothing is the same, although the 2.8 engine mounts will bolt right on, and the tranny will bolt right up. You'll have to make up your own wiring harness, use the original computer, everything. It takes a bit of work.

  • You rebuilt your LQ1? 0_0 I plan on doing exactly that with my 94 GTP's motor.. how much was the rebuild, I'm guessing around $4,000 for balancing, new rings, and all the goodies... Is that optimistically low or am I close? oh and how did the 13 degree exhaust retard do? Was it worth it or should I keep 0 degree?

  • do you have a gauge duct taped to your dash?! NICE! LOVIN THE GHETTO VIBE

  • how much did it cost to do this swap

  • Rodney Dickman sells a starter relocator

  • I know what you meen about that drone. 3.4l has that v6 drone around 2000rpm. The stock muffs took care of it well but with just a resonator and no muffs is when you get this drone. Its not that bad but cruzing for a hour will leave you turning up the tunes to try to tune out that drone, lol. Source: best buds' 96 Monte Carlo 3.4l We beat the piss out of this motor, have fun trying to blow it up! Haven't blown it yet, though we did pull 1 in. part of the intake gasket through. 146,000 mi whoops!

  • Yeah and Series and I just snatched up a complete 3.1 Turbo drivetrain... it'll be going into my other Fiero. Smog legal turbo V6 Fiero!
