After winning the Tour de France last Sunday, Alberto Contador says time off-road with American Lance Armstrong was harder work than the race.
It was never a marriage made in heaven between Tour de France team mates Alberto Contador and Lance Armstrong.

Armstrong publicly criticized Contador during the race for ignoring team orders.

After lifting the winner's trophy it was Contador's turn to shove a verbal spanner in the American's spokes.

[Alberto Contador, Cyclist]:
"My relationship with Lance is zero. Independently of his character, he's a great champion. He's won seven tours and played a big role in this one. But it's different when we speak on a personal level. I have never really admired him that much, or ever will. But as a cyclist he's a great champion."

Contador's been welcomed as a hero in his Spanish home town of Pinto.

He's keeping his future plans under wraps for now but at least his days in Astana with Armstrong seem over.

The 38-year-old U.S. rider has already unveiled plans to launch his own team sponsored by electronics firm RadioShack.

  • Armstrong was the one who wasn t the good team mate but Bruynel prefers Armstrong, but he said Contador can t win without team mates, but shut up Armstrong, he already did 2 times (2007-2009).

  • I like Contador, but saying that is not really needed. I saw the tour story where he said when he was sick he read Lance's book and it helped him alot and that he admired Lance. i know sometimes it can be difficult after you meet your idol AND competitor...he should realise that they are not "supposed" to be friends and leave it at that...

  • Lance Armstrong is better than contador. I'm spanish and all spaniards konw that contador is a very godd friend of Eufemiano Fuentes(Operacion Puerto)

  • I'm way faster than Contador, but not nearly as fast as Armstrong.

  • last time the french won the tour was 1985 bernard hinualt..in recent years moreu has been on the podium...in the 80s france was considerd a power house..fignon and charlie motte...things have totally changed for france..holland has also gone down the tube since the 80s.alp duez was consirderd the dutch mountian at one point...i admire lance for comming back, but it makes me sad that no one through his inspiration out of america there is much left on the shelf there has to be a dimond out there

  • You it to me? If so, likely my English is not clear to you, but it is not my native language and unfortunately I cannot explain to you more clearly!

  • Say what?

  • Alberto has no appreciation for a team under the leadership of Lance Armstrong. Contrary to what Lance wants you to believe, his tactics and leadership are always designed to give himself an advantage and put him in position to win the Tour. To believe otherwise shows great naivete and Contador, like any rider, attacks when feels he has the best chance to put time on his rivals.

  • hahaha:P
