http://www.bernardotech.org Eldon demonstrates how to build a parabolic solar cooker from a small satellite dish. WARNING: Parabolic solar cookers can be dangerous! They can cause severe burns or eye damage if a person comes in contact with the reflected sunlight. The upside is that parabolic solar cookers can also be more suitable for cooking or frying foods quickly, as opposed to panel cookers or box ovens. This video shows the conversation process, including modifying the mounting hardware, attaching a base, preparing the dish, and applying vinyl reflective tape. Future videos will review the capabilities of the parabolic solar cooker.

  • What diameter does your dish have? 33inch? Commercial solar cookers mostly have 50inch (120cm) diameter. So I wonder if you can still easily cook 2 liters of water with a 33 inch. 50inch dishes are more difficult to find or expensive.

  • @Fredepraeses My dish is only 22 inches in diameter. I suspect it will be limited to small cooking containers and small quantities of food. I have not yet had an opportunity to try it. I did light a few things on fire with it to see where the focal point is (see my other video on that), but time will tell if it does well cooking food. I will definitely post a video showing its capabilities (or lack thereof) when I use it.

  • @Fredepraeses : My self-made solarcooker has a Diameter of 120cm. If you really want to cook with it, it shouldn't be less than 120cm. The sun provides about 1000W/m² of energy at 12:00 o clock. With a diameter of 120cm you have a surface of 1,13m². I have made a video that explains more

  • @TV1862Dillingen Good info - thanks
