Before anyone says it I know the pillars of creation may already be gone but they make a great backdrop!

This wireframe model was built in A:M. The general concept being a smaller vessel than say the Enterprise in a suitable style to reflect the currect Star Trek formula (That said this clip is using the old fashioned "warp speed" travel effect of paralax starfields). Notable differences would be the ship is much shallower in height and sports a sloping face to the hull. I hope you like :)

  • Wow! Some people really hate the new style. "Come, come Scotty. Young minds, fresh ideas. Be tolerant" lol

  • Its been built in Animation Master (Hash inc) but it's not from the new movie.

  • Hey I'm a fan of TOS and the original motion pictures when I say this..... My favorite Enterprise is the A model from 4,5,and 6, and the refit from 1,2,and 3 is a close runner up in my opinion. But everyone who hates the new starships just think about this one thing for a second.................... If you had no knowledge of the trek universe before seeing this starship, then what would think think? Or to put it another way, take your personal bias for TOS out and judge it as a ship.

  • @NevadaWrangler: If I hadn't been a Star Trek fan, I probably would not have gone to see JJ Trek because it looked too plastic from the trailers, reminding me a bit too much of many of the "we're calling it sci fi but its really just action" movies from the past decade. :/ I miss the glacial-paced movies. Nobody makes a 2001:ASY or ST:TMP anymore, and anytime I say I /like/ and /prefer/ those movies, I get naysayed by folk who consider them absolute bad movies no one would watch. :/

  • Bet that can bust up some alien ball sack, Wait ? Aliens don't ball sacks do they ?

  • I really like the way you combined the new JJ style ship with the TMP versions. I really like this.

  • the engines look like sexy sexy calves

  • Also the 'pillars of creation' as a backdrop is still totally accurate even if they have long ago dissipated. The Eagle nebula (where they reside(ed)) lies 6,000 light years away. The view seen here is taken from the vantage point of the Earth so if the Columbia were cruising anywhere in the vicinity of the Sol system you would still see them as they appear today, that is, 6,000 years ago. It will be centuries before any changes in their structure are visible at this position in space.

  • Very nice job. listening on earphones I like the low rumble as it glides by. And the saucer/engineering connecting dorsal actually makes a lot more structural sense in this design.

  • I think it looks really good, dude!

  • Not Bad space out the nacelles some more, raise the saucer section some, and flush out the secondary hull. Slightly elongating the saucer section wouldn't hurt.

  • the front torpedo bays are awfully close to the saucer section, if it were to fire it would possibly destroy the ship

  • I still think the Abrams ship looks like it has 2 gigantic hairdryers for nacelles.
