Shit people say to ministers

As a seminary grad and ordained minister, I found this is very funny, but it made me think of a couple of things. First, I wonder how one would make a video entitled "shit ministers say to themselves." Second, when people ask these questions, they are asking us to give some personal account of the Christian faith. In retrospect, I wish I had taken better advantage of the opportunity, and given some better answers--in word and deed--rather than being intimidated by the questions.

I graduated from BUSTh last year, so I was close to you guys. Have to say that your video makes me glad I got away from the smug seminarians that are found in Boston. Pastors are already self righteous enough without this sort of thing enabling them to look down on lay people who are doing the best they can. I pray no more lay people see this. How could it not make people even more reluctant to talk to clergy? I also pray that you guys find a more gracious approach to laity and their questions.

@revakashalonsdale True! Not sh*... it lack of knowledge that makes people say or ask those sort of things. My best friend is a minister so when people see her dancing ( and she dances really good) they go..so you can dance? Oh boy!
-
I should add "Are you a priestess?"
-
Love it!

@DTatMC -- in This Odd and Wondrous Calling... Martin Copenhaver actually addresses all this "Stuff" people say to ministers, and then the opportunities that sometimes come out if it. However we respond (probably depending on the day, the mood, our self care, whether we decide to "come out" as ministers)... the stuff people say is there! :)

I'd like to see a "shit ministers say to people."
-
Uhh, did you just say "sonofabitch?"
-
About twice a week I find myself telling people, "Just cause I'm a minister doesn't mean I won't cut a bitch." That usually loosens them up.
-
The background for this video looks sooooo familiar! =)
-
I love it when people say 'Is it OK to swear in front of you?'. I show them my 'fuck it' tattoo, and that REALLY confuses them!

"So, your a minister, can you baptize me right now?"
"Hey, say a prayer for me, would you? I know you have a direct line to the big guy upstairs."
"A minister, huh? Ya, I've been lookin' for a church...maybe I'll get to yours on Sunday."
"So, Father....wait, is that what I'm supposed to call you now?"
"Wait, you're becoming a minister? Weren't you a little crazy in high school?"
"Wow! You look so different on Saturday at the dump than you do in your robe on Sunday....so wierd!!"
-
So true!
Great video. I hear "Really, you don't look like a Minister!" and "Oh, you're an Interfaith Minister, do you believe in God? What sort of Church do you have? Oh, you respect all faiths - so are you a Christian?" and on............ I wouldn't call them shit questions though, just opportunities to inform.

@revakashalonsdale They're definitely not shit questions. It was just the "constraints" of the meme.
