  • What about instead of sterno, a can full of lard? you can use it as a fuel or eat it. its got tons of calories. I really don't know anything, just wondering. oh and a cell phone.

  • I think lard would be a reasonable substitute, The only thing being since it is a food byproduct it has the potential to break down and go bad in a long term situation. If you didn't plan on going out but for a few days it would probably last in a cooler climate. As for a cell phone there are the pro's and con's, There are many more towers and transmitters now, along with the updated antenna extenders it "could" work, I would suggest the new Spot GPS and emergency locator as a substitute.

  • Plus with cell phones the man can track you down.

  • Whatever will work for you is fine, It is always good to experiment around, Of course you will find plenty of Armchair Commandos on here that will tell you to walk into the wood's with absolutely nothing because they are freaked out by whatever they see on TV. I love Frejoles, now you made me hungry LOL! If you can can lard then yes i think it would work great. As for cell phones, you must have read my profile. Hehehe.

  • thanks for sharing.

this is much better advise than that shit on expert village

    cheers

  • thanks, I am glad i could beat out the Experts lol!!!

  • Thanks for your time & effort in creating & posting this. Very appreciated.

  • For safety whistles I found that a Storm Whistle is ridiculously loud, actually loud enough that you have to cover your ears or it could deafen you. It looks a little funky, but it has a longer range than a standard whistle.

  • I've had lard last a long time. I'm mexican so I buy it by the jug. lol for my frejoles. What about canning lard with a pressure cooker? or thick plasic bags that are cooked or something?

  • try lightening the load by removeing original packaging, and inserting in ziplocks

  • yes mate u have the essentials but you should remove items from origional packaging, and resort them into ziplock bags,,,fire&tinder ,signaling, repairs ,shelter ,food&water, just a thought to help lessen the load ,but good gear anyway
