Today's top story is....Dr. Donald Seitz, Chair of the Bon Secours Health System Board of Directors receives the 2011 Compassionate Care Award.

On Thursday October 20, 2011 at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond Virginia, Dr Donald Seitz was recognized and acknowledged for his volunteer work at the Crossover Health Care Clinic in Richmond Virginia.

The Crossover Health Ministry is Virginia's largest free health care clinic providing services to almost 6000 patients annually.

The Compassionate Care Awards are presented to Crossover volunteers and staff members who show dedication to providing compassionate, quality medical care to the Crossover Health Care Clinic patients.

Recipeints of the Compassionate Care Award are models of Crossover's core values of compassion, integrity and servant leadership.

According to Dr. Seitz, "I am grateful to Crossover Ministries for providing the opportunity for us to practice medicine for one reason and one reason alone...love of neighbor. Nothing can beat that feeling!"

Dr. Seitz is retired from West End Orthopedic Clinic...now Ortho Virginia.

He has served on the Bon Secours Health System Board of Directors from January 2000 until December 2008. Dr. Sietz also chaired the BSHSI Board's Quality Committee from 2000 to 2007 and currently serves as the chair of the Bon Secours Health System Board.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Donald Seitz, MD...the recipient of the 2011 Compassionate Care Award.

In other news, here's a quick reminder that open enrollment for supplemental Life Insurance and and Flexible Spending Accounts...or FSAs...is just around the corner. It runs Monday, November 7 through Friday, November 18.

This year Bon Secours is transitioning from UNUM to Prudential for life and disability products. Transitioning to Prudential will result in an enhanced range of coverage options, many at reduced premiums.

And if you haven't already, you may want to consider a Health Care or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account to help control your expenses. FSAs are unchanged for 2012. FSAs enable you to pay for your qualified health and dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars, saving you money—on average 30%.

For details on open enrollment including supplemental life and Flexible spending accounts, go to bshsiGoodChoices.com. Additionally ConnectYourCare...accessible through bshsiGoodChoices.com...has a handy calculator to help you project your health and dependent care expenses.

And don't forget those dates....November 7 thru 18th for open enrollment.

Finally, On October 7, 2011 Bon Secours St. Francis Health System announced the unveiling of a new fitness program at Simpsonville Elementary School in partnership with Project Fit America.

Project Fit America is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving children's health by making fitness part of the everyday school experience. A concept Bon Secours St. Francis Health System readily embraced for the benefit of the community.

So, Bon Secours St. Francis...in partnership with Project Fit America... helped provide indoor and outdoor state-of-the-art equipment, a dynamic curriculum for students, onsite teacher training, and health & wellness lesson plans for classrooms...the complete package.

According to Natalie Dougherty, St. Francis Health Outreach Coordinator, "Bringing Project Fit America to Simpsonville Elementary is in line with St. Franics' commitment to build healthy communities."

Indeed, statistics show that healthier, fit students have better attendance, better focus and better academic performance. And living physically fit helps young people avoid health problems through preventative health measure....which in turn helps build healthy communities.

Please join us in celebration of the first school in Greenville County SC to be selected as a Project Fit America model school and of Bon Secours St. Francis Health System's vision to building healthy communities.

Well, that's it for this week. Stay tuned to this portal for future up to the minute information on these and other stories on BSN Headline News. I'm Dave Schlachter. Thanks for joining us.
