Fantasie is too fast, but I like the tempo of the fugue.
Perhaps just my taste.

@harpsinth The original German was aptly translated into the English idiom "like the wind", which means fast to English speakers. It is also reported that Bach favored faster tempos when he conducted, not just when he played solo keyboard music.
I've heard many recordings of this work by various performers, and they all play the fantasy at about this
tempo. Most of them take the fugue a bit faster than this.

man..."like the wind" sounds so imprecise and void too...even the wind changes its
mood everyday, some days warm and calm, somedays cold and fast.
Mr. Steier plays very impressive anyway, and he does this because he masters the instrument.
since , I don´t have any "personal friend" from XVIII century people,
my only "evidence" is my internal mood and taste. I just prefer a little bit slowly...
Perhaps this tempo could be fine for orchestra but not so fine for keyboard.

@harpsinth Doesn't sound "in a hurry" to me. I have recordings by two other well-known harpsichordists who take is work at about this same tempo.
Do you have any evidence Bach would not play this at this tempo?
C. P.E. Bach said his father like to play "the like wind."
The rate of change of harmony determines tempo; the slower the rate of harmonic change, the faster the tempo.

Too fast!!!

@abcmesh = of course mr. Staier is a "virtuoso" and he can do such a choice...I preffer a more confortable tempo because the musical text becomes (at least to me) more clear and the piece more dramatic. May be this "supersonic" tempo is inspired in arco instruments ( like Violin) ? anyway, this kind of "fast" and "tricky" interpretations only makes me fell anxious. I´m trying hard to be acquainted with this phenomena...unsuccessfully... may be I´m getting older :) Happy new year !

@harpsinth didn't occur to me that there is any hurry in this excellent playing :oP , also there are historical and compository indicators that this piece would rather played in a certain way and not another.

Cocaine abuse... :)

there´s no evidence that Bach would like to play this in a hurry...
"excessive speed" my ass.
Bach certainly shredded the fuck out of his harpsichord.

This is not to be an artist to show only virtuosity...It's too fast and kill the score.
