Some very early results with Augmented Reality (AR) on an iPhone 3G. This video shows an adaptation of the Parallel Tracking and Mapping system to an iPhone. All processing is done live on the phone.

Re App store: You're unlikely to see AR apps on the store any time soon, since the camera API is officially off-limits.

Re library: Since it can't be released on the app store, this would probably fall foul of apple's developer NDA. And anyway it's not even close to ready for release yet!

I try the PTAM version on ubuntu and it was very intresting, but it is all my i3 cores on 100%. Version in the video is run on the iOS and no OSX server needed for calcualtion?

Great work, I'd like to try this one on my iPhone 4 iOS 5.0 I already downloaded the PTAM.zip file from your blog but have no idea how to translate this files in there or how to connect with my phone, any help much appreciated, or if there is a tutorial which explains everything in detail please write me a message, urgent case, I'd need it for university! thanks in advance

well, there already are some AR apps and I will name the ones I know. ARdefender and Virtual Santa. I think these use ARToolkit and not PTAM but still... AR is already here but for some reason it didn't get the attention I would have loved it to have.
