Listening to Our Planet was a multidisciplinary, multi-departmental event presented on April 20,2009. This event is part of Columbia College Chicago's Critical Encounters calendar of events; Human|Nature is the theme for this years program. The purposes of Listening to Our Planet are: to celebrate the Earth and its natural beauty and resources; to raise awareness about issues relating to our environment, such as pollution and global warming; and to give opportunities for members of the Columbia College Chicago community (students, faculty, and staff) as well as organizations in the community to present work that relates to these themes.
Listening to Our Planet offered poetry and essay readings, audio recordings, video screenings, and other art forms. Faculty and students in The English, Arts, Entertainment and Media Management (AEMM) Departments; the New Millennium Studies program; and other Columbia College departments and programs were involved with Listening to Our Planet. In addition, this event showcased work by individuals and students involved with organizations in the community, such as The Center for Community Arts Partnerships, Lincoln Park Zoo, Snow City Arts, The World Listening Project, and Urban Gateways.
