In this video, I answer a question from Ian36. He would like to know if building a computer is a good alternative to buying them. I encourage people to build computers to learn more about them, but one major thing to consider is the time it takes to do it. If you have the time to invest in building computers then go for it, but if you find yourself without a lot of time then i suggest buying a pre-configured computer from a trusted source. Hope that helps Ian! Thank you for the question.

  • Order a custom built computer from a non-household online vendor like Buyxg.comm or Ibuypower.comm. You order what you want and they put it together. You get a lot more computer for the money than any OEMs. The motherboard will be better (faster FSB), the RAM will be better (800mhz), you get better graphics cards, etc.....

  • Thanks for the alternative. I'm glad you suggested something like this rather than alienware. People should never consider alienware in this conversation. They are astronomically overpriced.

  • I Built my computer, and honestly ill prob never buy another prebuilt one.

it is NOT at all as hard as you might think, go online and buy a good book on building it, skim it before you start , and then follow it step by step... it took me 4 hours to finish the computer.

the whole process will take a day or two.

its not worth the extra money.

My computer was $900 for all the parts, same comp on alienware was $3000 $2100 is not worth the ease of getting it done.

    $300-400 is completely wrong

  • it was actually $200 more that I paid and that was 4 years ago. In today's market, it'll be much less. Like I said, some of us don't have the time to invest in building and are willing to pay more for a pre-built. And if you're considering alienware as a comparison, there's your problem.

  • 4 hours to build a comp? wat did it have in it? takes me bout an hour, very easy to build comps :)

  • Heh, the time to build them is usually pretty small. It's the configuration, tweaks and support that eats the most time for me. :)

  • @RileysWill He bought a computer from cyberpowerpc so it was 300-400 $ more alienware is overpriced thats why it was such a vast price diff for you

  • @iobuffa im young and have KINDA alot of time IM BUILDING a pc for gaming like crysis crysis warhead farcry 2

  • I'm young, 14 years old, I am interested in buying a computer. It turns out my dad had a very old computer in our basement. I thought about what you said and I plan to invest my time into this opprotunity.

  • alienware looks sexy

  • CyberPowerPC and Aleinware rip off!

  • It takes only 2 hours to build a PC...... I prefer buildin it yourself

  • @experimental0000 alienware has an excellent customer service system. that is what you pay for if you buy an alienware computer. that and a warrantee on overclocked systems. but yes its worthless to people who know how to work on computers.

  • if you cant build your computer and have it set up in less than 4 hours you should just buy one unless you are interested in reducing your time. but if you know what you are doing buying a pre assembled computer is stupid. the parts are already have a warrantee. the only thing you get from buying a pre assembled unit with a warrantee are answers to questions that google already has. and as for mac osx, you can install it on ANY computer, there is no difference between pc and mac in that respect
