CHICKADEE & PISTOL 2009 - 1) JUNE 20, 1 WEEKS OLD: Today I took Chickadee and her 8 puppies to the MilkyWay. Before the mother and puppies can go to the Milky Way there are a couple or prerequisites. 1) The mother must be able to get up from the puppies without stepping on them. 2) The mother must be able to get back in the whelping box without stepping on a puppy and must be able to lay down, in the whelping box, without squishing a puppy. 3) The puppies must be able to find their mother with out my help. The Milky Way has an inside, heated, and outside kennel run. This is when I get to sleep back in my own bed. Once the mother and puppies are in the Milky Way, the mother can go outside as often as she wants and the puppies stay warm and cozy in the whelping box, inside the Milky Way.
You will see videos of Chickadee out on a walk, in the yard. Notice the condition that Chickadee is in. A lot of bitches, after giving birth, are skinny and look like they are in very poor condition. Chickadee has been on a very special diet through her whole pregnancy. She is in really good body weight and condition, even though she is feeding 8 puppies.
Chickadee is able to get into the whelping box without stepping on any of the. The puppies can find her even though their eyes and ears are not open, so they can not see or hear. In the video you will see how the ear canal is still closed. It will open around 2 weeks of age. Their eyes will open around the same time.They find their mother by smell, heat or by the vibration of her stepping into the box. The puppies are not able to get up on their feet yet. They move in kind of a swimming motion. I think they look like fat guinea pigs.
The mother's registered name is Spirits Pick Me Chickadee and the father's name is Shorelands Pistol Pete II CD MX MXJ NF. I breed Golden Retriever and Labrador Retriever in Redmond, WA. I have been Breeding, Training, and Showing in AKC, CKC, UKC Obedience & Agility trials for over 35 years. I love raising puppies and teaching people how to live with dogs. I have bred some of the top Obedience dogs in the US & Canada including the #1 All Breed Dog in Canada for 2008, GMOTCH, Am, OTCH SPIRIT'S ZIM ZAM ZOOM UDX3. My dogs are very athletic, love to swim, hike and are very intelligent. They make wonderful family members and are great with children.
