What's wrong with utopias? Anything, that mankind created was an utopia in former times. Mobile phones, iPads and the end of slavery just to mention a few. And you are completely right about technology. It's not a thing, that is good or bad but the application by people. You can use a knife to put butter on your bread and a letter opener to murder a person.

@trillian1964 Well, I would state that what is wrong with utopias is that they represent a static and unsustainable society, and thus are impossible. Much like our current socio-economic structure; infinite growth on a finite planet is a utopia. An RBE is not, because it - unlike any other societal system - is based on natural law and actual circumstances rather than human emotional and thus fallacious notions.

You behave and speak exactly the way Thomas would classify a psychopath or proto-psychopath. You're nit-picking the word usage such as the assumption that he believes that the humans will actually be connected to some 'central computer'--that's an obvious metaphor.
