Why did you not open with say, pictures of the WWII bombing of German or Japanese cities? Or even pre WWII German or Italian or Japanese bombing of European or African or Chinese towns and cities? Or pre WWII British bombing of rebel towns and villages on the old North West Frontier? Or even images of Sherman's March to the Sea? Oh and incidentally, your example of a "good man" was a slave owner and arguably a rapist.Or maybe you were attempting irony here?

WWII is over, the Iraq war is now. This song is about stopping the rain, the wars, especially unjust wars, and calling on each of us to do our part to try and stop them. As for TJ, no man or worman is perfect. TJ had a few skeletons just as each of us do, but I believe, if you total

the pluses and minuses on the man

he would come out ahead of most of us

@Kennys1961 It's artistic vision. War is hell, adding those events wouldn't change the portrayal of that fact. Sherman's March likely saved many more lives than it took by helping enact a faster end to the war. Much how the nuclear bombs brought an end to WWII. But, that's the rub, war sometimes requires the loss of life in order to save life. War is often necessary; many times it's not. Things like this serve to remind of the horrors of war so that we may not endeavor upon it lightly.
