In the 1950's, photographer John Palatinus' New York studio was raided by Federal Marshals and the NYPD. His equipment was confiscated along with his photos and negatives. He was charged with sending "lewd images" through the US Post. It ended his career.
These images are tame by today's advertising standards but they serve as an important reminder of the Puritanical motive of many to criminalize homosexuality.
Palatinus has lived to see his work re-discovered. He is currently on a world tour exhibiting his photographs and serving as an icon for LGBT Civil Rights.
