Przewalski horses is the world's only remaining species of wild horse. And some of the few examples left living in the wild are to be found in western China.
This herd of these endangered animals has managed to survive the frigid weather that recently gripped the western Chinese province of Xinjiang.
Still, staff at the reserve where the 40 plus horses live, say they will be closely monitored around the clock.
As few as 15-hundred Przewalski horses currently survive - most in captivity in around zoos and breeding centers around the world.
China runs a project to reintroduce the species to the wild, launched in 2001. Previously in 1992, sixteen horses were released into the wild in Mongolia, followed by additional animals later on. Currently the species is classified as critically endangered.
