Xian, the world's biggest city at one time and the birthplace of many engineering and architectural marvels of ancient China, is resurrected with computer animation, dramatizations and scientific revelations reliving the glory of its long-lost past.

A massive, near-impenetrable wall encloses the ancient city of Xian, the starting point of the Silk Road route from China into Europe. Made from a base layer of earth, quick lime, and glutinous rice extract and further fortified by a layer of bricks, the strong wall snakes around the city at a length of 13.7 kilometres. Besides being an engineering achievement, the wall is also believed to be the world's largest and most complete ancient military defense system that remains intact today. MAN MADE MARVELS: CHINA'S FORGOTTEN CITY goes behind the walls of this fortress to provide invaluable insight into the military science and architecture of the Ming Dynasty.

  • I'm so pround of Xi'an, my hometown. Thanks for sharing this video and letting more people understand the culture behind the city walls.

  • If European knights and soldiers were so strong, so well trained, so knowledgeable of war combat, so battle harden, and so god-like then how come when Ghengis Khan set out to conquer the world and expanded west right into Europe no one could stop him ?.

The only reason why the Mongols went back home was because Ghengis Khan died and they saw no more reason to take over a bunch of primative savages

If Mongols took Europe ?, Columbus would of never sailed and the Indians would of been save

  • China fell into a deep sleep at the fall of the Ming Dynasty. I'm happy to say that the dragon nation has reawakened. I pray they soon will be completely released from the shackles of Communism ( a barbaric Western invention).

China is the only nation that surpasses the West in innovation and invention throughout history. I love China and traditional Chinese culture. I'm not Chinese but I'm proud to be Asian and have distant Chinese and Mongol ancestry.

  • one of the Great Asian Countries. West sucked up all the treasures, exploit people, and ruled for 100 of years by dominating them. but guess what NO one can control the talent, imagination especially the talented people. now look it again the Asia is on rise an almost near to top (China, Indian, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh and more).

    Proud to be Asian. :D

  • China truly has a great history and culture. Too bad the today culture is not comparable during Empress Wu reign in the Tang dynasty. During that time, equality and different ideas flourished. I wish Chang'an city survived. Would love to travel and shop in an ancient city.

  • mmm..she nice
