The UC College Republicans represented while meeting new faces, enjoying great food, listening to a lively debate, and making frequent trips to the open bar (haha) at the 23rd annual Heartland Institute Banquet!

I apologize for my lack of stability with camera - I had it focused on highest zoom and was holding it above the audience while seating. Moreover, my camera's memory could only store the beginning of the debate and none of the lively Q&A which got personal between audience members and especially Mr. Morris.

WE THANK HEARTLAND FOR AN AMAZING EVENING!

"On Thursday, October 25, The Heartland Institute celebrated the 23rd anniversary of its founding with a lively and fun reception and dinner with speakers at the Hilton Chicago Hotel.

The response to last year's program, featuring a debate between Prof. Richard Epstein and Rev. Robert Sirico on the foundations of classical liberal ideals, was so positive, the same format was adopted for this year.

This year's topic was: "Was Abraham Lincoln a friend or foe of American freedom?" Arguing in defense of Lincoln is Joseph A. Morris, president of the Lincoln Legal Foundation. Questioning Lincoln's legacy is Thomas J. DiLorenzo, author of Lincoln Unmasked and The Real Lincoln."

  • I'm talking about a tyrant that people from the right and left alike tend to worship. I'm talking about the worst president in American history.

Although it's no wonder that the neos love Lincoln....

  • What on EARTH are you talking about?

  • Lincoln got the ball rolling between corporate bastards and the greedy government.

    i.e. the 1st rupeblukin

    Sound familiar?

  • why did he support the north racist laws towards blacks

  • he was also a hypocrit who criticized the south black code laws and ignored the north black code laws

  • Lincoln was a charlatan of the highest order.

  • Who needs habeas corpus to have a free society? Glad these dudes support GWB 100% now. They don't? OH...I guess they're hypocrites.

  • Perhaps he didn't think so during his first inaugural.

  • "I am naturally anti-slavery. If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong. I can not remember when I did not so think, and feel." -- Abraham Lincoln, 1864

  • About the Gettysburgh Addres:

Ok, lemme get this straight-- this guy says that the Founding Fathers declared a NATION in 1776?

Funny, the Declaration of Independence says that the colonies are FREE AND INDEPENDENT STATES.

What illiterate moron thinks that "FREE AND INDEPENDENT STATES" = NATION?

Lincoln was a ruthless dictator who would say or do anything to achieve and maintain power, PERIOD.
