@tomovox You nailed it, my friend. They could make any song sound good, and make a great song unbelievable.

...I'm so very happy to have your comments on this tremendous song and fantastic group. I think Motown was amazingly fourtunate to have not one, but four "girl" groups who were strong in different ways. I do think the Supremes deserve a lot of credit because when you think about it, no other girl group anywhere accomplished so much in so short a time. I just think that Motown could have really made the paying field a bit more even and had four really strong acts.

@bjclark1017- You are so right in saying that the Marvelettes took Smokey's writing to the max. This is something I've always found intriguing about the group- for a group of girls who initially thought they couldn't sing very well, they grew so quickly into a group of women who could make ANY song sound like gold. When given a masterpiece like "Hunter," the results would make any group envious. No, they didn't get a lot of credit back then, but I'd dare say the group has even more fans now..

@tomovox Here you have Smokey writing at his best, and The Marvelettes taking it to the max. It is a travesty that The Marvelettes have never received the credit they deserve. Meanwhile, The Supremes have received a ton of credit that they never, ever deserved! Isn't it amazing that songs like this feel as though they are 'just a few years old' and then you realize it was approximately 40 years ago! We must be time travelers!!!!

@silk5252 I always love hearing from fellow fans of the Marvelettes! You are so right when you say those songs have such a very sexy sound! Wanda definitely had a sexy quality about her voice that could instantly melt the heart of even the coldest guy.

even though i was just a kid of 7 when "BILL" dropped in 65 I had older siblings and the marvelletes were big in our house. Now that I'm grown "BILL" and "CAPTURED" are my absolute favorites. These two just have a very SEXY sound.
This has always been one of my all time favorite songs from the Marvelletes! it's almost hypnotizing !~ The Groove is so so smooth and yet it just pops!~ Bottom line Musical perfection! Funk Brothers' ,Smokey! and the Marvelettes! GOLD! I TELL YA!!~

@tedkay Excellent way of summing up all that is great about this song! I once saw a special with a jazz singer, I think it was Regina Belle and she mentioned this as one of her favorite songs- BINGO! That was great to hear! This one just stands out among the best of Motown.

Among the Marvelettes' best (and that's saying a lot as they have in my view many greats). This song conjures up images of a '60's night club with folks dressed up as they did back then. Wanda does a powerful and soulful job out front on this one, and as always the Funks bring the music. Of course Smokey's writing is top-shelf. By the way, was the Chicago DJ referenced below by you Bob Stroud? He has an appreciation for soul and will play a few tunes of that style regularly.

@mattforte192 I wish people still dressed up more than they do now. Great points all around in your views on this song. I often feel that the Marvelettes really were quite special because it seemed they could rock a song, do a ballad and then go to power-soul even. The combination of Smokey and the Marvelettes always made for something outstanding. You must live in Chicago! Yes, it was Bob Stroud who did the promo and I think it was for a Kevin Matthews event. I was knocked out by that!
