This was an absolute sharpening disaster. I do not know what mystical properties Strider S30 has but it didn't want to work with me on the edge pro apex. I was on the virge of giving up since no progress was being made.

However I remember a time when I attempted a touch up on my friends Japanese waterstone. It was a fairly painless process. I decided I was already knee deep, what's the harm in trying. Sure it took a while but I could detect progress being made.

Maybe it's just because I'm tired or maybe the results are good, but I'm seriously thinking of getting a set of nice Japanese waterstones. It's no Murray Carter edge but it crossed arm/leg hair shaving sharp ages ago. It's in between that at face shaving right now.

  • i am in your shoes, with the same knife, sine my hand is not as steady as yours i will stick with the edge pro, i know i can do it, i hope

  • @auradud3

I still have my edge pro, have not had a chance to get rid of it yet. Might keep it for another shot, I shall see.

  • Nice work....sometimes it does suck doing it all by hand, but I do it that way because you get more out of it knowing that you had to work hard to get it that way. You appreciate it more am I right? I tried it with my Gurka here's the vid didnt work out so well, I guess now I will have to do a video of me shaving with my Spydie Persian that I now shave with all the time...when I do shave that is..lol Good vid bro

There is something therapeutic about stone sharpening. I find it relaxing.

  • Damn that Strider's gotta mirror polish and FREE HAND?!

You go! lol Shaving with a Stider..

I may buy that edge pro off of you. ;]

  • @ZippoThisKnifeThat

Yep one of my first tries at actually sharpening free hand. The stones that came with the Edge pro are of fantastic quality.

As for selling my edge pro. Once I get some good waterstones and see that they function well then I just might sell it to you. Rather it go to someone who I know appreciates it.

  • Was your Sage 2 face shaving sharp after u edge pro'd it?

  • In my opinion a stone. those fangled sharpening devices are just a fucking nuisance.

  • the reason the apex didnt work is because there's no lubricant on the stone to carry away the swarf, so it clogs up the stone. stone sharpening is the best way to do it. i put a ~12* double bevel on my chefs knife and its hair popping sharp. you cant do that with a rig. only down side is all the scuffs you can get on the side of the knife.

  • well my friend, i did like you did, i just began and ended with patience with the edgepro, noow my knife looks like yours does, and the edge?? wow!! the edgepro is outstanding, next i dod my 755MPR w/M390 and now it has 30* inclusive edge! so cool

  • I have sharpened several knives with the edge pro and they all came out excellent, except for my Kershaw 0301 ZT, couldn't get the recurve sharp, and since the blade is not flat, I had difficulty keeping the angle, because the knife just wouldn't sit flat. I spent several hours on that blade alone, just like you, but I kept at it, and finally made it acceptable. There's definitely a learning curve with the device.

    Good video.

  • Thumbs up!

Great video, I was there myself at one time... Them apex edge pros trade pretty quick LOL

    Go DMT dia sharps

  • that looks amazing for free hand! great job!
