the Chieftains version remains supreme in my heart. But they're all great.

Neat to see Joni still a couple of years before her prime. Still, this doesn't work, it just isn't her kind of song. A shame she loses the great rhyme "moans" and "bones". And I don't know that she sings well with others; reminds me of how she almost ruined Neil Young's coked-up but beautiful "Helpless" in Last Waltz. Two great versions of "Long Black Veil" apart from Cash's are Lefty Frizzell's and Sally Timms'.

I really miss the old variety shows on tv.What great talents we saw and enjoyed.Not a lot worth watching on tv nowadays.I wish the networks wood give it a try.They would initially have a hard time coming up with the talent and big names to host such a program I suppose.
