Find me in Chicago - I'll be shooting short videos, in between sessions at Yearly Kos, of people providing opinions and commentary to help offset the polarized view of America crammed down our throats daily by the Conglomerate Media's tabloid news divisions.

  • >> all the active duty and military vets there for that panel were in full compliance and in civilian clothes.

He was the person who was either knowingly , or maybe unknowingly, creating the very reason he was shut down from speaking. It wasn't the content. No one understands why he came in uniform. It's simply against the law. Again, if you want the links and video I mentioned, please reply again. thank you

  • >> His biggest concern was humanitarian, he worried that the Iraqis might be left in an unsecured situation if we left too soon. And he was very upset by this and I watched as a whole group of attendees asked him to "blog" this entry so that he had the full venue of about 150,000 registered users at DailyKos to address this issue. I don't know if he followed up or not. It's not fair to spin the situation as you portrayed it, because

  • contd: This was attempted to be spun as liberal DailyKos people shutting down free speech that seemed contrary to some liberal position. That's false, even though still, to this day, people want to interpret the commander's actions as stifling speech. It's not true, and the next day the Sergeant returned in civilian clothes and I was at the table where he sat. Everyone there was attentive to his slideshow on his laptop, his handouts, and his stating his deep believe that the surge is working. >>

  • If you'd like for me to find the link explaining this, let me know and I will followup. The moderator was an active duty member of US Military, a higher rank than the sergeant, and was instructing him to comply with the Uniform Code, but the gentleman refused to comply. This is why the moderator dressed him down; it was with complete disrespect for the U.S. Military Code, and a serious violation which could subject that soldier to severe consequences.

  • octobernight77, thanks for commenting on this. I was not there at this event, but the next day it was discussed a lot onsite at the convention and on the website DailyKos. The issue, as explained in that post-event discussion and examination of what happened, is the soldier was brazenly violating the Uniform Code Act which makes it illegal for him or any soldier to wear their active duty military uniform and engage in any political discussion or debate.

  • (and yes I am totally aware of the dotcom with the name townhall. They use text to publish conservative & extremist views -- you might call them The Extreme Right Hate Speech group on the same page as Bill O'Reilly. By contrast, VIDEO TOWNHALL NETWORK is a venue for ordinary, sane Americans to express who they are and how they feel, bypassing media filtration.

  • As the Military and Progressives panel came to an end, a young man in uniform stood up to argue that the surge was working, and cutting down on Iraqi casualties. The moderator largely freaked out. When other members of the panel tried to answer his question, he demanded they "stand down." He demanded the questioner give his name, the name of his commander, and the name of his unit. And then he closed the panel, no answer offered or allowed, and stalked off the stage. Can you say hypocrite?
