@goodtogonow3 Its actually a Haitian song written in 1893 called "Choucoune". The English lyrics are unrelated to the original. The first to record the English version was the Norman Luboff Choir, followed by the Mills Brothers.

Ata was the Man! They called this music 'exotica'... but make no mistake, Ata was Hawaiian to the bone and so good fun to be around... miss him and his easy going smile.

Thank you so so much for the reminder of a wonderful, beautiful, and peaceful era gone by. As a young marine in 1957, I laid in my barracks playing this music on my hi fi and just relaxed and dreamed of beautiful island scenes. Thanks so much for sharing. Ole Johnny B.

@goodtogonow3 Not sure about "original", but the Mills Brothers charted with it in 1959, #70.
