I wanted to share with you how to properly adjust your reflector on your box oven. I found that adjusting it so it hits more in the front will provide more even heating. In the front of your box oven, you will see it will tend to be more shaded, this means it will be cooler which means cakes, breads, bisquits will tend to be cooked less in that area unless you move your pan totally to the back of the oven to fully get a direct hit.

As the seasons change, the tilt of your reflector will change because of the angle of the sun as each season changes. You will find your reflector will need to be more upright when the sun is at a different heighth in the sky, and sometimes, it will need to be tilted more back or forward. Once you get use to this, you will have more success in keeping the temps high. Don't forget to re-aim your box oven too for maximum temps!

  • Thats an excellent idea! Many fail at solar cooking because they don't take the time to be observant of the focal points, as to where they land. On a box oven, having a longer adjuster to prop the reflector gives you a wider range of angles to give the best temps.

You may want to make a video of how you adjust yours to help others be able to troubleshoot theirs.

  • i noticed this with mine..ive been able to reflect my 4 reflectors in the middle in the same area. i have marks where the best angles are so i can focus it faster

  • Also, adjusting your reflector to shine directly on meats in clear glass will brown it more on top, but you have to watch it or you can get it overdone and make it tough. I usually adjust it on top of the meat after it has cooked thoroughly, the last 35-30 min. If you have more than one reflector, especially 4, it browns automatically because of high temps.
