Video of over 200 students talking with the dean of Art, inside the Old Arts Building. The dean of art is not against the cuts to the arts at the University of Melbourne, clearly outlined by the response from students. She classes budgetary constraints over the arts. The University plans to cut 1 in 4 1st year subjects and sack 140 staff to plug a 12 Million Dollar deficit in the Arts budget. This coming from a university that posted a 200 million dollar profit last year and who spent over 100 million on an advertising campaign for its new model.
Students were from Melbourne University, Victorian College of the Arts and other Victorian Universities.
Filmed by Geordie Barker, VCASU General Secretary!

  • clearly you're right Arza89. arts students shouldn't have to waste their time protesting about their courses being cut and staff being sacked. no student should have to deal with that kind of crap - you want to blame someone? blame the university and the federal government.

  • get a life and grow up madgefan555! You are clearly a negative and lonely person!

  • Oh please, this change was necessary to get in line with the rest of the world. So what we loose some arty farty subjects. Commerce, law and medicine are of more value to society than a $10,000 piece crap.

  • I'm leaving Melbourne Uni to go study in France because I went there to study French History and half the french AND history subjects are cut!

  • arts students need to find something better to do with their time... clearly

  • Well as they say by knowing the past you shalt know the future.

    btw

if you want to enter law at the Prestigous and Arrogant University of Melbourne you have to do an Arts course first.

  • Did you really think this would be a helpful way to solve a real problem?

  • grow up!

  • clearly arts students that are lost in the past
