AS SEEN IN CINEMAS

Giselle is one of the most influential of all Romantic ballets, and one of the greatest and most popular works of the dance canon and of The Royal Ballet's repertory. The title role presents the transcendental power of a woman's love in the face of betrayal and is one of the most technically demanding and emotionally challenging roles in classical dance -- not surprisingly, it is here a great showcase for the leading ballerinas of the Company. Peter Wright's sensitive staging in the atmospheric designs by John Macfarlane heightens the contrast as the story moves between the human and supernatural worlds.

Giselle: Marianela Nuñez
Albrecht: Rupert Pennefather

  • it's just sad that i think they're not going to put this on dvd.

  • oh i really hope this will be released in dvd. nunez and pennefather for giselle is the best.

  • THANKS!! WHEN WILL BE AVAILABLE IN BLU-RAY , PLEASE OPUSARTE- THIS WONDERFUL EDITION ????????

  • I took off from work to watch it yesterday afternoon in Franklin, TN (just south of Nashville). I loved it! I wish it wasn't the only "Ballet in Cinema" production that the Royal Ballet was performing this season. (Lord knows there's almost no chance of me ever making it all the way over there to London! :)

  • It was indeed out of this world despite the satellite hiccups and the audience in my London cinema being mostly elderly (well, at least they were quiet during the performance but where are younger people?). All the dancers were great but Rupert Pennefather is out of this world and I cannot remember seeing a better Albrecht for a long time. Russian dancers usually jump well but do not have the presence. Rupert has everything! I loved the production, which makes emotional sense of every move.

  • It was wonderful, thank you so much.
