"You've Got To Pay The Price" was produced by Al Kent, who had releases the instrumental version on Ric Tic 127 in 1967 and has been a Northern Soul favourite ever since.
Jean Terrell cut a vocal version which was intended as a sole release, then she re-cut it (13th January 1970) and Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong's vocals were added (23rd January 1970).

  • Did we also forget that Gloria Taylor recorded the vocal version first on the Silver Fox label?........An often covered Ric Tic classic from the '60s......superbly done by Jean Terrell & The Supremes.....should've been released as a single

  • @Vincent50 NO It is defo Mary and Cindy on this. I have it down on my recording log as Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong vocals added 23rd January 1970.

The songs with Jean and the Andantes was only a tiny few and they were all done in 1969 on the recording log I have, then from 1970 onwards Mary and Cindy were on the tracks and the Andantes were no more THANK GOD!. xxx

  • @Vincent50 That is what I thought, but it turned out to be Mary and Cindy. xxxx

  • @bradly2007 I must agree. that boxset is awesome, I bought it when it first came out and love the book style of it, I recommend it to any fan who loves Jean, Mary and Cindy. xxxx

  • @wiganjoe OMG, I always thought it was the Andantes on this with Jean as it sounds so much like them, wow I am so pleased now that it is Mary and Cindy, I can start listening to it again now I know it is Mary and Cindy. It is incredible. xxxx
