Commercial from the early 1970s by National Airlines. This airline, and many others had a period where they played on the idea that everyone should be able to look on a beautiful stewardess while flying with them.

While the passengers were boarding the stewardesses had to great them with their name the phrase fly me - i.e. "Hi my name is Cheryl, fly me!". National Airlines was acquired by the great Pan AM in 1980 and seized to exist then.

  • This whole advertising campaign was done by Dick Wolf, creator of Law & Order. Years before Law & Order, right out of college, he was in advertising. He mentioned it on Inside the Actors Studio....

  • Interesting info!

  • These were great commercials and they exploited the whole stewardess mystic of the late 60s and early 70s as "sluts in the sky". However, the greatest airline to exploit this was San Diego-based PSA that in the late 60s had their flight attendents wearing miniskirts and go-go boots. Check out some of the retro PSA websites they have a lot of archived photos of these "uniforms".

  • Not forgetting Braniff's air strip with Puccini outfits.

  • Love your Intro graphics! This was a 'classic' ad campaign and quite brilliant for the times... early 1970's.

  • Thank you, wish I could get my hands on all the other variations and girls of this classic campaign. It is so stylish, makes me want to go to Miami just so I can fly Maggie's two 747's to New York :)

  • Glad this wasn't "National Transit" or some other train company... "Ride Maggie. Ride National."

  • I'm Adolf, Heil me!

  • You have to give it to them, they're efficient. I wish all commercials could be this short.

  • I'm a translator student. And I have this commercial as an assignment. Would sb say that the language used in there is formal or pseudo-formal?

  • Maggie looks, even at this young age, like she has been "flown" to much already! Waaay past time for a "D" check!!

  • She looks like an old lady before the light reflects on her hair.

  • Flyg mig till New York, i mina skona 747: or till Kennedy.

  • Thank you for posting. Can you tell me pls when exactly it was aired?

  • Frrrrrrrrrrunkis! Linger longer!

  • @ira4632

I don't believe it! Is there a link to a youtube video of that segment of the interview??
