i had the exact same unit in my early teenage years, this little thing was a workhorse i took it with me every where ,, recorded a lot of great AM and FM stations up and down the east coast when my family used to go to vacation in Florida and for many a year i sat on Christmas mornings for at least an hour or so and filled up a caseette tape of the WABC top 100 from NY and it sounded great i wish i still had it !!

I have got one of these and it has been a great recorder (after i did some repair work)
it had a jammed internal swtch and it neaded a new belt.

My mom has this exact same radio. My dad bought it new years and years ago and somehow she ended up with it after their divorce in the late 80's. It still works just fine.

Oh wait not Craig! It's Elgin I guess.

It sounds to me that the bad sounding Craig definitely has a recording problem. I'm thinking it's not getting enough power to the recording system??
How do you know if a cassette recorder is AC or DC?

You judge by the sound quality and background noise content. You also check for the bias coil in the circuitry.
