William J. Gutowski, Jr., is Professor of Meteorology in the Department of Geological and Atmospheric Sciences at Iowa State University. His research is focused on the role of atmospheric dynamics in climate, with emphasis on the dynamics of the hydrologic cycle and regional climate as well as regional modeling of Arctic, African, and East Asian climates. He served on the National Research Council's Committee on Climate Change and U.S. Transportation (2005-2008) and currently serves on the NRC Committee on Challenges and Opportunities in the Hydrologic Sciences. He was lead author for the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and is a member of the World Climate Research Programme's Task Force on Regional Climate Downscaling.
