  • Is that the original engine? Looks like it's out of a XJ6. But being an export I don't know if they had different carb setups. The rockers look wrong too. I thought all E-Types had smooth rockers? Please correct me if I'm wrong. :)

    Ta.

  • u r rite

im dum enough to have burnt out 2 engines - lack of oil or somethin

  • very nice, I own a 1986 xj6 and almost same engine but fuel injected, she runs very well too, does yours live up to the "myths" re burn and leak oil mine does neither and all I do is "dust" the engine! these Jaguars are so well made people who drive Holden's and Fords would not realise how solid Jaguars are! Would like to see your E Type on the road etc upload some drives good luck and keep that Cat forever.

  • I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old DOHC Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree

  • Smooth cam covers went away in late 1967. This is just what the engine should look like in this car. Everyone prefers the smooth covers and triple SU carb set-ups, so if you see a 69 like that then it's someone's upgrade.

  • Series II with all the emissions stuff was officially 69-71. Plus it has the Stromberg carbs in it.

  • If it is a '69 it probably doesn't have emissions crap!

  • It's most likely a tappet guide coming loose. The emission controlled XK engines have that unfortunate problem that I've realized firsthand. Definitely don't continue running the car until you can determine what it is for sure, otherwise you risk severe damage to the engine.
