Guitar Rescue investigates an old Fender Mustang Bass. Is it really from the 60's? Buddha breaks out the power screwdriver to find the answer. Plus, Jimmy Brown, (resident vintage guitar guru from Guitar Emporium in Louisville, KY), takes it for a "test drive". Hold on, we're going inside!

  • I think the guitar was perfectly fine, didnt need to be rescued...wasnt the neck plate enough to tell the year? anyway, I just bought a mustang reissue....fine little bass..get it in 2 weeks

  • @peacemonger1967 Hi Peacemonger, it wasn't actually rescued. It was just a little vid about checking out the date. SOme folks in Nashville, shop shall go nameless, said it wasn't a real vintage bass, but then tried to make me sell it to them for $400. The plates can be removed and placed on a later guitar if one were dishonest. it happens all the time. In fact I've heard of a China site where you can request a specific year Fender decal and serial number. tsk tsk. Enjoy your guitar!!!

  • Dear FlogCheney, Thanks for your kind comments. We're not "experts" by any means, and you are absolutely right. We could have skipped doing this altogether, spared the guitar abuse. But then some "unsavory" guitar collector might have convinced us that it was actually a rare, but worthless, Matsumoku copy imported by Shemp Brothers in 1988. We're glad you refered to a few of our favorite ancestors "Les Stooges". In fact, Buddha and the Pests were featured in "Stoogefest '83" at WSIL TV3!

  • hey, i was wondering how much a bass like that cost?

  • @HH003 You'll have to check with Guitar Emporium in Louisville, KY as they bought it from my friend.

  • Cool my father has a later model and it sounds great

  • Thanks, pretty fine for a 43 year old guitar that had a rough life.

  • The one we had got nicked ;[

  • This video is great, I was totally surprised by the end. I live in Louisville and I love the guitar emporium.

  • @Buddhanthepests - Thanks for taking off the neck plate AND the plate that holds the input jack and volume + tone control. I've got a 2004 reissue and it was especially interesting to see how the electronics inside compare to the reissue!!!! 10 thumbs up!!!

  • cool, thanks for the clarification...thats especially interesting about the Chinese connection..I'll mention it to my guitar dealer...wouldnt be hard to fake a vintage guitar these days, with the aging techniques they have...I would never buy a guitar with the aged look btw, its up to me to play it and age it naturally, even if it takes 40 years...keep on rockin! @Buddhanthepests

  • YES! the new ones are around the same price...if its in good working order, get it@nikoguy
