Sam's gone downhill creatively since Montrose to the point his lyrics are pure cheese (Up For Breakfast, anyone?). The Van Hagar era is a footnote on rock radio, while the brilliant Roth "six pack" spins with The Stones and The Who. No matter how much Sam lies, official RIAA figures prove decisively the Roth era sold over TWICE as many units. Van Halen & 1984 alone doubled the sales of the Hagar discs. Sam simply is not in Roth's league & pussified VH to Journey mediocrity.

This may piss alot of people off and may not, but I believe that as an older band Rush still blows them away musicially and has a much much better live show. Always has,always will.

@fishinman2009 Pretty much a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned. They are very different bands though. Rush has a level of musicianship that very few bands ever achieve.

I wish Van Halen played the super bowl instead of Madonna. If they were up there, they could do a few new songs and promote the album and they could do their hits too.

@vladamih That's true my friend his singing sometimes doesn't cut it. However I believe that he knows it and is honest about it and focuses on conviction of the songs I guess.

Yes, I fully agree.Above all, they are much better in the songwriting department.The only downside is that Geddy's voice doesn;t always fit their songs.

"Up For Breakfast" was bad lyrically?.....It was also bad musically. As a big VH fan, I was very disappointed with the 3 new songs that was on the VH greatest hits. You can't put all the blame on Sammy.....we all know who wrote the music and played guitar and it was a period where he had lost his way big time in my opinion.
