I have a replacement mouth video tutorial at:

http://www.stopmotionstore.com

This was a completed shot for Zombie Pirates using replacement mouths for captain quill. They are made out of Van Aken Claytoon clay using silicone molds. Each mouth pops off under his nose, down behind the back of his jaw. The seam line is simply smoothed out between frames. Can you see where it attaches?

  • What type of clay do you use???

  • @TheFlashstickman It is claytoon Van Aken brand clay. You can melt it down and pour it into your silicone molds.

  • How do you use tie-downs without seeing holes in your set? do you have to mask it out?

  • @TheFlashstickman Just tape the hole and paint it the same color as the set floor. Or use colored clay. It works really well.

  • @animateclay Thanks Alot! I'll try that. I've been think of using tie downs, but I was just really unsure about the holes in the set and everything.

    Thanks Again,

  • @animateclay Ah, I've seen that brand before, thanks.

  • @kickmo the foam doesn't crack at all or crumble - it's basically a fine foam sponge material.

  • @animateclay so im guessing foam latex doesnt crack and crumble as much as plasticine?

  • @kickmo they are different materials, clay requires sculpting during animation. Foam doesn't so it's faster. It depends on the look you want to achieve.

  • hey whats the difference between using foam latex and plasticine for stop motion?
