A corroboree is a ceremonial meeting of Australian Aborigines. The word was coined by European settlers in imitation of the Aboriginal word caribberie. At a corroboree Aborigines interact with the Dreamtime through dance, music and costume. Many ceremonies act out events from the Dreamtime. Wikipedia

Wow! I am doing a project on Corroboree, Could you tell me if the word 'corroboree' distinguishes it as a performance? I know that there are certain types that are sacred and private (do they go under another name?)

Unfortunately I'm not an expert on the many languages of our earliest inhabitants. I have the impression that the word signifies "get together" but as I said I'm not an expert. I find the internet a helpful resource and will check that out. As you have indicated the corroboree has many facets and is one of the means of passing on ancient wisdom and history to future generations.
