  • Ya well i honestly would wanna die in that situation so we payed her the same respect, life was terrible for her and we couldn't provide the proper care so we put her down. She is a damn dog, I swear people are just in a rush to tell anyone who will listen why they are better or more compassionate than you. Things die, shut up.

  • Cuz she was too old and going blind. she had arthritis really bad. :( sad

humans taking over a dogs life...

  • just lost my Dalmatian in the middle of the night. She was 11years old. In the morning she was running and playing with all her buddies, fine all day through, we ate some toast together on the Sofa at 2am. I heard er panting later on and comforted her not knowing anything was wrong we both went to sleep and Anna came and told me she wasnt breathing. It has been a sad day she was the best, and our house feels so empty without her now... For Kanji

  • Well you reap what you sow lady!!! i have had dogs till they were over 16 + Only you know if the dog was truly suffering but if murdered her because the situation was too over whelming FOR YOU then you are a coward and cold harded. i for one do think that hmans and non-humans are EQUAL and we humans have no right thinking we are superior to the animals of this earth. SPECIESIST!!!

  • even though u didnt show putting him/her to sleep, me thinking of you doing it made me cry right now i know how u feel, ive lost four dogs, all died and all my 11 cats

  • @pumpernoob What happens if the dog is in pain and can't walk and the Vet says it wouldnt make it through surgery because its too old? Thats enough of a reason to put an animal down wouldn't you think?

  • Let the dog live.. Its still alive. Im sure nuttin can hurt as much as being betrayed by your family. The dog wantsto live im sure. WoW think of the dog instead of how much u need to take care of it... Humans r greedy arrogant things.

  • @pumpernoob to me its only necessary to put dog to sleep because it is in a lot of pain, if there is no pain then they dont need to be put to sleep. if i was old and i had a fatal illness in hospital hopeless id want to be put to sleep

    thats just me

  • I understand that your dog is in pain, but that's what medication is for .. And why put her down because she's blind?

If a person is blind should they be put down? No, All you can do is get pain medication for your dog from the vet and give it to her so she isn't in constant pain there's no need to put her down..

  • There is also a cultural aspect to the decision, and in Japan there is a nearly-16yo dalmatian who is now immobile, but is lovingly cared for by his master and a few other "care managers": blog.livedoor.jpSLASHsean101

The owner says the dalmatian occasionally cries through the night, with no form or amount of attention providing relief--is it pain or just overwhelming angst? is the owner doing it for the dog or for himself (he often says "There is still something I can do for him.")?

  • It is not for third-parties to judge what owners honestly believe is best for their four-legged family member of 10+ years.

At the same time, the following facts hold:

1 dogs have far fewer parts of their body which feel pain; and

2 just because a dog is frail or has lost full use of some parts does not necessarily mean (s)he is in unbearable pain

--in my case, I would make the hard decision only if and when there is indeed excruciating pain which nothing can relieve.
