This is with the Arizona State University's Chamber Orchestra after winning the Concerto Aria/ Competition. Cathy OShaughnessy (TA in Orch. Concduting) is the conductor. The concert was in Gammage Auditorium on March 4th 2009.
Mr. Araya, winner of the Ellsworth Smith International Solo Competition 2004, has been a member of the Costa Rica National Symphony Orchestra since 1997, participating in its tours to Germany, Spain and Japan. He is also in the faculty of the National Institute of Music and the University of Costa Rica.
He started his musical training at the Conservatorio Castella Arts High School with professors Edwin Amador and Jorge Duarte. After that he entered the University of Costa Ricas music school under professor Ricardo Vargas. Mr. Araya feels at home playing not only classical music but also popular and Latin music as well thanks to his collaboration with artists such as Rubén Blades, Armando Manzanero, Gilberto Santarosa, Juan Gabriel, Tito Rojas and numerous Costa-Rican Salsa Bands.
As a soloist, he has played three times with the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica, two with the renowned conductor Irwin Hoffman (Concertos of Haydn and Hummel) and the last one on a season concert at the National Theater under the baton of Ferenc Gabor playing the Haydn trumpet Concerto again.
Another soloist appearances include the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Uppsala Chamber Orchestra (Sweden) within the CREDOMATIC Music Festival, Loyola University Chamber Orchestra (New Orleans, USA, after winning the Concerto/Aria Competition), Heredia Municipal Symphony Orchestra, National Institute of Musics Chamber Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, National Wind Symphony among others.
Mr. Araya has performed in Master Classes with Gilberth Johnson (Former principal trumpet of the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy), Josef Pomberger of the Wiener Philharmoniquer, Rod Franks of the London Symphony Orchestra, the Empire Brass among others.
In the year 1999 he spent a season as guest principal trumpet of the Venezuela Symphony Orchestra. Another orchestral experiences are with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra while he was finishing his Masters degree at Loyola University, Youth Orchestra of the Americas (Pablo Casals Festivals educational program) and the Pacific Music Festivals Orchestra in Japan under the batons of Christof Eschenbach y Myung Gung Chung.
Another festivals attended by Mr. Araya are the Baylor University Music Camp, First Chamber Music Festival of Central America (Nicaragua), the Brass Festival of the Costa Rican Trombone Quartet and a Solo recital at the International Trumpet Guild Conference 2005 in Bangkok, Thailand.
During the year 2006 he collaborated with the great Russian organist and musicologist Elena Keylina in a series of concerts at the Las Mercedes Church in the town of Grecia (Costa Rica). He also presented a master class at Ithaca College (USA) in February 2006 and in April 2007 he returned to his Alma Mater Loyola University, to play as a soloist with the Wind Ensemble and give master classes. In March 2009, he performed Giuseppe Tartinis trumpet concerto with the Arizona State University Chamber Orchestra after winning the Concerto/Aria competition. Other recent activities include a master class and a concert with the Washburn University Wind Ensemble in May of 2009.
Mr. Araya holds a Bachelor degree from the National Institute of Music (Costa Rica) and a Masters degree from Loyola University in New Orleans. Currently he is in doing doctoral studies under the excellent guidance of ASU Regents Professor of Trumpet, David Hickman. Luis is an Edwards Trumpets artist/clinician.

Gracias Flavio, a mi tambien me gustan mucho sus videos, sigue subiendo mas!!! Este fin de semana pasado, estuvo aqui en Arizona un trompetista de Sao Paulo amigo mio, se llama Arthur Camargo, vino a hacer audicion para estudiar con David Hickman y le fue bien, ahora es nada mas esperar para ver cuanta beca le pueden dar!!! Estoy planenado ir a visitarlo vamos a ver que pasa!!! un placer estar en contacto contigo!!
