The commentary was just childish and dumb. It was obvious that the octopus was going to kill the shark after the big build up from the commentator. Also, it didn't explain why the octopus killed the sharks. Assuming that octopuses killed them for self defence is projecting human intelligence onto octopi. There was no discussion as to how intelligent the octopus is, the tactics it uses or what abilities allow it to take on a big shark. That said, the show is probably aimed at children.

I doubt they took the video with the intention of seeing the octopus attack the shark, they were probably just doing promotional, educational or monitory video. I'm pretty sure the multiple angles are just due to the cameraman gradually moving about. The clips are not necessarily directly sequential, the fight would probably have lasted at least several minutes. This isn't the sort of thing you could just go down one day expecting to catch on video and get it.

Octopi are considered to be among the smartest of animals.

Please at least show a modicum of knowledge about the subject matter. OK I get that it is only a 166 second video but it does fly the National Geographic logo. How are our budding scientists going to have any respect when the commentator is clueless? Maybe he was hired for his voice? For the record it is octopuses not octopi(Greek vs. Latin origin). Spiny dogfish DON'T HAVE TEETH. Their #1 claim to fame is they are the main ingredient in Fish portion of Fish and Chips of UK fame.

I found it rather surprising and entertaining (with my condolences to the shark). A good buildup should have a little foreshadowing ;)
