New Flies video shows an innovative idea that you can use to improve the realistic looks of an alevin, one of the first flies to "hatch" in Alaska, around the Great Lakes, the Pacific Northwest and all places salmon have been transplanted. This video includes how Tim created some realistic smolts and minnows in The Hidden Years video slide shows.

  • How do you make the black pearl chain eyes?

  • I've got some of the last still available, craft shops quit bringing them over from china a few years ago.

  • What size fish? I've hooked browns over 10 lbs with size 20 hooks. The 2 pound tippet didn't hold.

Try a size 10 for an alevin and an 8-6 for a smolt.
