sumptuous - stark at times - almost too much perfection . Monteverdi became a priest - he was, his whole life , no doubt a contemplative of the highest rank. I will cherish his work forever.

The Ave Maris Stella is my favourite part of Monteverdi's Vespro, and Gardiner's rendition is wonderful.
