Part 1

Hey guys, in this video I do an overview of five browsers for speed and memory usage.

Opera
Internet Explorer
Mozilla Firefox
Apple Safari
and Google Chrome

Now trust me when I say this, I did this test as accurately and as well as I can. This is a two part video so make sure you watch both parts.

Here are the results:
Firefox
home - 1.232
memory - 40,184k
msn - 2.855

Opera
home - 1.263
memory - 64,144k
msn - 3.978

Safari
home - 1.996
memory - 67,628k
msn - 2.714

Internet Explorer
home - 4.462
memory - 45,872k
msn - 3.791

Google Chrome
home - .7
memory - 14,620k
msn - 4.774

As you see, home means number of seconds to load the home page which is Google. Memory is how much memory the browser used during a Java game. And MSN is how long it took for the browser to load msn.com

  • Of course the browser is going to run faster in "safe" mode - you've effectively disabled virtually all of Firefox's "unique" functionality (ie. the functionality that sets it apart from other browsers) - I GUARANTEE you that if you were to do the same thing in ANY of the other browsers, you would also notice a significant improvement in speed (hell, even Microsoft Windows: Vista will run at nearly three times its normal speed in "safe" mode...)!

  • No, I disagree. With tweaks and the right add-ons it could blow the others away.

  • cool vid dude, thanks for takin the time out to do this!

  • When you start adding "tweaks" and extensions in the mix, well then I have no doubt that Firefox would win be a mile...

But then you would need to "tweak" all of the mainstream browsers and have a video comparison on THAT instead.

  • I find it extremely difficult to believe that the DEFAULT extensions (the only one of which is "TalkBack", I believe) would make Firefox any faster...

Besides, there are tweaks you can make to ALL of the mainstream browsers that will increase the speed, some more so than others, but they all have "speed" tricks!

Therefore, those results are not accurate because Firefox is not running in "normal" mode with its DEFAULT extensions, none of which will increase the speed at which pages load...

  • Mozilla's Firefox is (according to your "accurate" timings) the fastest browser of those reviewed... But you have it running in "safe" mode!

  • nice Overview 5 of 5 stars
