Roseanne Barr with We Are Change at Occupy Wall Street
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5Zyz8njQb8

We are living in a world full of techno gadgets, and 24 /hours news cycle but does it make us more informed people? The American government and the Canadian government denied the dignity and rights of Palestinians to form their own state this week at the United Nation assembly and a man named Troy Dravis was executed even though the evidence no longer pointed to his guilt.

Everyday on my way to work, many nicely dressed people get up and read their free daily newspaper while commuting to work, adults and kids are so plugged into the wi fi world, but all the information in the world will not make us a better people if we don't try to engage with it and reflect on it and do something about it.

Instead of talking about conspiracies theories, getting caught up with the daily breaking news, or argue about the illuminate, or the end of the world, or taking pictures of themselves with their phone and posting on face book or people only ever dreaming about getting rich themselves but

We can do much more if we stand in solidarity with the marginalized against corrupted power, and show empathy, courage and understanding for those who need it?

  • Dear DSOTN,

    Agreed.

It seems the more technology and information we have, the less we actually accomplish. But I hope that I'm doing my part online. And btw, kudos for the final line. <3

  • @Ujames1978

  • ... I believe the best thing we can do to empower our nation (whether it's the US, or Canada, or whatever) is to empower ourselves. And, as we work to empower ourselves, help others to do the same. This action produces a chain reation of organic growth and wellbeing.

  • ... To be honest, i don't believe that people CAN look or act very far beyond their own immediate life circles. We are each like the cells of a body. The cells of my foot cannot do much more to support the cells of my hand than to simply be the best possible foot cells they can be. A cell exists of its own accord and for its own purpose. The key to the unity of my body is that its purpose is in alignment with the purpose of all other cells. ...

  • ... But when we grew up, we exerted our own authority over ourselves and rejected the authority of our parents. This process involved strengthening our bodies, learning the ways of the world, making connections, and obtaining income and resources without relying on our parents. The same model of moving from childhood to adulthood should be applied to our daily lives. Always moving forward, always striving to be more. ...

  • I like what you're saying here. And i hear you.

I've said this to many people, but i feel like my words keep falling on deaf ears:

What we need is an individual plan of action that we can work on collectively. It's like the saying "Think Globally, Act Locally". What i mean is, the more self-reliant we are, the more autonomy and power we have as individuals. When we were children, we lived under our parents authority and had to do what they said. ...

  • @darksideofthenation Awesome!!! I'm very happy to hear that. Thanks for being so kind as to let me know. As for the "precarious time thing", join the club. I'm working on contract, hoping it will be renewed. I have some connections but in the policial area, I might be relatively useless. :(. I pay 40 dollars a year for Peter's new jobs; its worth it for IT. Occasionally see other areas. ;).

  • @truevoiceofsanity

psychology and poliltical science, i am currently working now, so i am happy, who knows if it would last, we live in precarious time, everyone is on their own.

  • @darksideofthenation Yes, all these are something!!! By the way, I wonder if you have pretty good one on one communication skills. Have you considered a career in counceling or social work? Its a hard job but you are compassionate. Do you have good listening skills? Can you be creative? You care a lot. The chanllenge there would be helping people to use the resources already available. Channel ur passion into your career? What is your education in.

  • Hi!!! I was a bit concerned about the Troy Davis thing but I've heard conflicting stories on the state of the evidence for his trial. A guy who was anti-death penalty in the Guardian, (a left of center paper in the UK), claimed the case on him was still the same mostly. About the Palestinian state thing; I don't know that story. U.S. has allowed Palestinian state in the past; its terrible situation

  • The internet is censored its called Google, they choose what you see.

  • Troy Davis was a cold blooded killer and the other Arabs don't care and won't help the Palistinans so why should we ?
