The World's Aaron Schachter reports from Rosia Montana, a small town in the northwest of Romania. A Canadian company wants to mine gold using cyandide. Locals are opposed.
Thank you for your report. Unfortunately, the cyanide mining involves a huge ecological disaster that is not told by the Canadian mining company. (see also Alethea – Turkey case) Also, their project will destroy the pre-Roman and Roman archaeological heritage that can not be restored afterwards. It involves destroying the churches the cemetery and the current inhabitants’ houses. This project shall not be approved.
The canadians are tryn for 10 years. It was decided before they came.17 years ago there was a cyanide spill not far away from there by a romanian company, a river got poisoned and diplomatic problems with Hungary. If somebody will mine there it will be a romanian company linked to goverment. But most probably cyanide mining in Romania is gone. We're in Europe, no matter how poor, Gabriel can go fuck himself.
