Nuit Blanche 2008 was the final night that the lights of Sam the Record Man would be seen on the famous Yonge St. location, downtown Toronto.
Ryerson University officially acquired the property for future expansion of its nearby campus. Signs in the windows now announce the former Sam's store as the future location of Ryerson's Student Learning Centre.
As of October 8th the signs have been removed and the building awaits demolition.
TORONTO HAD LOTS OF HUGE NEON SIGNS YEARS AGO ..WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE NEON SIGN CLIPS FROM YEARS AGO ...SOME ONE MUST HAVE MOVIES OF THESE SIGNS ...LIKE THE INGLIS APPLIANCE SIGN ,,,THIS IS CANADA,S BIGGEST NEON APPLIANCE SIGN

I am glad I got shots of the signs around 2AM, they were shut down around sunrise. I was able to get great HQ Betcam SX and Canon HDV video. It was cool, people were there shooting them on HQ 16 and 35 mm film too, so at least they will live on in spirit.

Wow. Thank you for this. My last time there was 2003. I'm looking at current videos wondering what's going on. Now I know. Sam's & A & A, R.I.P. Hope not all the shops selling jeans, rock t-shirts, posters, and pizza by the slice have been demolished. (I'm going again in the coming weeks.)
